Heritage Heals Youth Empowerment Program- Parent Guide
We know raising teens is hard, and you don’t have to do it alone. Our program is designed to support not just youth, but also their caregivers.
-
Mentors with real lived experience, not degrees. Our mentors aren’t “professionals” in the traditional way.
They’re women and men who have:
Survived domestic violence
Broken generational cycles
Raised kids without support
Overcome poverty, instability, or trauma
Built boundaries, confidence, and identity the hard way
Chosen to become the kind of adult they needed when they were young
These are people who can look your child in the eye and say “I’ve been there, and here’s how you get through it.”
We value experience over credentials, though we maintain safe guidelines, screening, and accountability.
-
We do not do “drop-in and disappear” mentorship.
Each teen is placed in a small group with mentors who commit to:
Showing up every week
Building an actual relationship
Walk with your child through challenges
Staying steady and present, not giving up when things get hard
No child should ever feel abandoned by someone who promised to be there. We take this very seriously
-
Our weekly sessions include a mix of:
Conversation and check-ins
Life skills and confidence-building activities
Workshops (boundaries, healthy relationships, identity, leadership)
Creative outlets
Safe, supervised social time
Guest speakers with lived wisdom
These gatherings are designed to feel like community building and a fun time with friends, not class or a therapy group.
-
While we are not therapists, social workers, or a clinical program, we do maintain:
Clear safety expectations
No-judgement spaces
Confidentiality
Anti-abuse / Anti-harm boundaries
A required background check for all mentors
Leadership oversight to ensure consistency and safety
Your child will always be in a space designed for respect, care, and protection.
